chorus of spring peepers and

wood frogs in a vernal pool.

Vernal pools are seasonal bodies of water used as breeding habitat by species to complete their life cycles - fairy shrimp, spotted salamander, blue-spotted salamander and wood frogs and others.  Evidence of these species using a pool for breeding can often only be documented through observation during a very short time period in the spring.  With time, eggs hatch, offspring grow and disperse, and the pools dry up.  Vernal Pools are protected natural resources in some States, and are also considered important to the federal Army Corps of Engineers and local governments.  The presence of vernal pools could have an impact on development plans, or conservation potential.  Keep your options open by scheduling a vernal pool assessment now.
