65 year old engineering company will be new Taunton division
Taunton, Massachusetts (November 01, 2017): S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc., headquartered in Bangor, Maine, has acquired Tibbetts Engineering Corp. (TEC) of Taunton, MA. Tibbetts Engineering Corp. was founded in 1952 and provides construction materials testing, construction administration, construction inspection, and geotechnical engineering services to clients in southern New England. TEC operates two offices, in New Bedford and Taunton, which will be consolidated into the Taunton location.
S.W. Cole Engineering Inc. was founded in 1979 by Steve and Wendy Cole. The 38-year-old firm has offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and provides geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, special inspections and geoenvironmental services. A subsidiary, S.W.COLE Explorations, LLC, provides geotechnical and environmental test borings, with 3 locations. S.W.COLE hired 18 TEC employees and now employs about 115 team members in New England.
According to Robert E. Chaput Jr., P.E., the S.W. Cole Engineering, Inc. CEO and President, Tibbetts Engineering Corp. will operate as a division of S.W. Cole Engineering, Inc. Chaput and Taunton Regional Manager George Block, P.E., who was the Vice President of Tibbetts Engineering Corp. prior to the acquisition, will work together to complete the transition. Long time employees who are continuing with the firm include George Mello, Construction Administration Manager, and Derek Mello, Construction Services Manager.
Chaput noted “TEC clients can expect to see a focus on our core construction related services and geotechnical engineering. As a division of S.W.COLE, the Taunton office will have expanded construction testing and geotechnical engineering capabilities, and a network of offices and team members throughout New England to help efficiently cover our client’s projects.”
All of S.W.COLE’s offices have laboratories that provide physical testing of concrete, soil, aggregates and asphalt. The firm’s technicians provide special inspections and field testing of construction materials for buildings, roads and bridges, airports, water and wastewater projects, industrial and manufacturing projects, and energy generation and transmission projects, throughout New England.
